Finding the beauty in the ordinary

My paintings are inspired by the shapes and colours of urban landscapes of Northern Spain and Mexico City. My intention is to simplify and abstract geometric forms with strong colour contrasts, using oil and cold wax medium. In current work I am exploring this approach closer to home in the UK.
Cold wax medium (CWM) is made from natural pure white beeswax, mixed with a small amount of odourless mineral spirit, and mixed with oil paint. CWM is applied using squeegees, palette knives and brayers so that colours can be layered, then scraped back to reveal underlying colours and textures.
